STEAM Xpress Brings Hands-On Science Fun to Greenwood and MVSU Clubs

What happens when you mix curious minds, enthusiastic scientists, and a whole lot of hands-on experiments? Pure magic.

On July 9, the DHA STEAM Team rolled into the Greenwood Club and the MVSU Club with their STEAM Xpress program, delivering a full day of science exploration that had our members buzzing with excitement. From colorful chemistry to edible DNA, our young scientists dove headfirst into the wonders of STEAM—and they loved every minute of it.

A Day of Discovery

The STEAM Xpress team transformed our Clubs into interactive science labs, guiding members through a series of experiments that made learning feel like play. Here's a glimpse of what our future scientists experienced:

🧪 Chromatology – Members explored the science of color, watching pigments separate and dance across paper in vibrant displays.

⚡ Static Electricity – With a few simple materials, kids created sparks—literally! They learned about electrons, attraction, and the invisible forces that power our world.

🧬 Edible DNA – Biology has never tasted so good! Using candy and other edible materials, members built their own DNA models, learning about the building blocks of life while enjoying a sweet treat.

❄️ Science of Snow – In the middle of a Mississippi summer, our members created snow indoors! This experiment introduced them to polymers, absorption, and the science behind everyday materials.

🚗 Balloon-Powered Cars – Engineering and physics came together as members designed and raced their own balloon-powered vehicles, learning about force, motion, and aerodynamics along the way.
