Shelley Cresswell Walker Named President of the MS Area Council

Shelley Cresswell Walker delivers a message at the Mississippi Summit for Boys & Girls Clubs

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta is proud to announce and celebrate the recent election of Shelley Cresswell Walker as the new President of the Mississippi Area Council for Boys & Girls Clubs. Walker’s ascension to this pivotal leadership role marks a significant milestone not only for our organization but for youth advocacy across the state.

Shelley recently served as the Mississippi Area Council Chair during the Mississippi Summit in Jackson, an event she described as a profound honor. "Advocacy for youth, our future workforce, and emerging leaders are dear to my heart," Walker shared in a post reflecting on the summit. It is this passion that has defined her service to the Movement and cemented her reputation as a transformative leader in the Delta region.

For the past three years, Walker has served as the Area Council Liaison for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta. In this capacity, she has been a vital bridge between our local operations and the statewide strategy, ensuring that the voices of Delta youth are heard at the highest levels. Her tenure has been marked by a commitment to innovation and a deep understanding of the challenges facing rural communities.

A Legacy of Service Rooted in the Delta

A native of Satartia and a proud graduate of Mississippi State University, Shelley’s journey has always been guided by a singular mission: "to be a part of making things better.”

As highlighted in the Greenwood Commonwealth’s “Profile 2026” feature, Walker returned to the Delta in 2014 to apply her skills to the region she calls home. That homecoming has been a tremendous gain for our organization. David Dallas, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, has witnessed her impact firsthand.

“She has been just tremendous for us,” Dallas told the Commonwealth. “Her service as a volunteer board member and state liaison has been more than helpful. She thinks of things the average Joe does not. Her perspective is a very good one.”

Her work has gone far beyond board governance. Walker has been actively engaged in programming that changes lives. She led the Club’s Smart Girls program in Greenwood, a initiative that helps young women make healthy decisions. Furthermore, she was instrumental in spearheading a statewide initiative to integrate mental health counseling into Club programming, providing critical support for members working through traumatic experiences.

From Local Liaison to State Leader

In her new role as President of the MS Area Council, Shelley will oversee collaborative efforts between local Clubs across Mississippi, driving initiatives that focus on academic success, character development, and workforce readiness.

“To me, it is apparent that she loves the Delta because she always focuses on helping other people here in the community,” Dallas added.

That love for community is reciprocated by the organization she serves. Her previous experience joining the Corporate Board of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, as reported by the Yazoo Herald, highlighted her unique view of the needs of families and children across the region—a perspective sharpened by her background in hospitality, manufacturing, and workforce education .

Looking Ahead

Shelley, along with her husband John Paul and their children Kaitlyn and Fin, embodies the spirit of community that Boys & Girls Clubs strive to foster. Whether she is applying her professional acumen or watching a Delta sunset, her philosophy remains grounded in the values of the region.

“Life does not have to be all of those big-city things,” Walker reflected in her Commonwealth interview. “Sometimes life is about the most joyful things. It is about knowing your neighbor—about knowing who you can rely on in a time of need. It is about coming together.”

As she steps into this new role, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta is confident that under her leadership, the Mississippi Area Council will continue to ensure that great futures start not just in Greenwood, but for every child across the state.
