Investing in the Future: How Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta is Changing Lives

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. For over two decades, our organization has been a beacon of hope for young people across the region, providing safe spaces, mentorship, and life-changing programs that help them grow into productive, caring, and responsible adults.

But as CEO David Dallas recently shared in the Greenwood Commonwealth, our work is more urgent than ever—and we need your help.

The Challenge: Why We Need Support Now

Greenwood and Leflore County have faced heartbreaking tragedies this year, with three of the six homicides involving teenage suspects. These young people didn’t start down this path overnight—they were once children who needed guidance, support, and someone to remind them of their worth.

That’s where we come in.

Our Clubs in Greenwood and Itta Bena (on MVSU’s campus) provide resources, mentorship, and a safe haven for kids who might otherwise fall through the cracks. But to keep our doors open and expand our impact, we rely on donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners.

Despite a transformational $1.6 million gift from the Mackenzie Scott Foundation in 2022, sustaining our mission requires ongoing support. As Dallas explains, nonprofits like ours are competing for funding in an increasingly challenging landscape—yet the return on investment in our youth is undeniable.

The Return on Investment: $1 Spent = $9 in Societal Benefits

When you invest in the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, you’re not just giving to a charity—you’re making a smart, long-term investment in our community’s future. Studies show that every $1 spent on our programs yields over $9 in benefits, including:

Improved academic performance
Reduced healthcare costs
Higher earning potential
Stronger families
Lower juvenile crime rates

Compare that to the $65 per day it costs to incarcerate someone in Mississippi—over $23,000 per year—and the choice is clear. Prevention is always better than intervention.

What Makes Our Clubs Different?

Schools provide education, but our Clubs provide life skills, career readiness, and financial literacy—tools many kids don’t get elsewhere.

🔹 Money Matters – Financial literacy programs teach kids (and even their parents) how to manage money wisely.
🔹 Career Launch – Teens gain real-world job skills and mentorship from local professionals.
🔹 Character Development70% of our kids report they’re willing to stand up for what’s right, even if it means going against their peers.

As Dallas puts it: “We are building better young people who are going to become better adults—responsible, caring, and productive.”
