A Taste of Success: Club Members Master Healthy Cooking at Viking Cooking School
Thereβs something magical that happens when you combine fresh ingredients, eager young minds, and a world-class kitchen. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025 that magic came to life for 16 of our Greenwood Club members!
Our young chefs, who are part of our ongoing culinary program taught by the wonderful Valour Taylor, took a field trip to the prestigious Viking Cooking School for an unforgettable hands-on experience. This incredible opportunity was made possible by a generous grant from the Rachael Ray Foundation, which supports youth nutrition and education programs across the country.
The mission for the day? To learn how to prepare a healthier version of a beloved Southern classic. Under the expert guidance of the Viking chefs, our members rolled up their sleeves and got to work creating a delicious and nutritious meal from scratch.
The menu featured:
Breaded Oven-Baked Chicken: A crispy, flavorful alternative to frying, proving you don't need a deep fryer for that satisfying crunch.
Fresh Mashed Potatoes: Whipped to creamy perfection.
Green Beans: Perfectly cooked to bring out their natural, fresh flavor.
The kitchen was buzzing with energy as our members learned essential culinary skillsβfrom proper knife handling and food safety to the art of seasoning and baking. It was more than just following a recipe; it was about understanding how to make smart, healthy choices without sacrificing taste.
The best part of the day? Sitting down together to enjoy the incredible feast they had created. The children were beaming with pride!
This special day at the Viking Cooking School perfectly complements the skills our members learn weekly in our Club's culinary program. We are so grateful to the Rachael Ray Foundation for their belief in our mission and to the Viking Cooking School for opening their doors and sharing their expertise.
Together, we are not just teaching kids to cook; we are teaching them skills for a healthier, brighter future.
