Easter Joy Across the Delta: How Our Clubs Celebrated the Beginning of Spring

Easter looked a little different at each of our Clubs this year – but one thing remained the same everywhere: community, generosity, and smiling kids.

From egg hunts and painting classes to a massive basket giveaway led by our youth, our units across the Mississippi Delta turned the Easter season into a celebration of service and togetherness.

Here’s a look at how our Clubs honored the holiday.

Grenada Club: Egg Hunt with the Anchor Club

The littlest members of our Grenada Club had a hoppin’ good time thanks to the Grenada Anchor Club. The Anchor Club visited the unit and put on a full Easter egg hunt that had children running, laughing, and filling their baskets with colorful eggs.

“The littles loved it!” said Alenda “Taylor” Buchanan, Unit Director of the Grenada Club. A group photo of the Anchor Club members captured the joy of volunteers who came ready to serve.

It was a perfect spring afternoon of fun and friendship.

MVSU Club: Easter Extravaganza

At the MVSU Boys & Girls Club, the celebration was bigger than ever. The unit hosted an Easter Extravaganza – a full day of egg hunting, games, and community connection.

The event closed with smiles and gifts for every child. But the day wouldn’t have been possible without two very special volunteer groups: Omega Psi Phi and Sigma Gamma Rho.

“Their support truly made a positive impact on the success of this event,” said Kambreca L. Mitchell, Unit Director of the MVSU Club. The fraternity and sorority members poured their time and energy into our youth, and we are endlessly grateful.

Greenwood Club: Painting, Hunting, and a Student of the Month

The Greenwood Club had a full Easter week. Yolande van Heerden led an Easter egg painting class that let members get creative with colors and patterns. The very next day, Brandon Gordon and his team hosted an egg hunt that brought out the competitive spirit and the smiles.

But Easter wasn’t the only thing Greenwood celebrated. The unit also named Naomi C. as its April Student of the Month. Naomi is an honor student who loves animals, mystery novels, and painting. She represents the bright futures we see growing every day at the Club.

Lexington Club: SMART Girls Give Back – 150 Baskets and Counting

While other Clubs hosted egg hunts, the Lexington Club chose a different path: giving back.

The SMART Girls Ambassadors of Lexington spent the entire month of March collecting Easter baskets. Their goal was 100. But these young leaders refused to stop there – they gathered 150 baskets in total.

On Saturday, April 4th, the unit set up in the City of Lexington and gave every single basket away to families in the community.

“This is what leadership looks like,” said Kawanna Horton, Unit Director of the Lexington Club. “Our SMART Girls didn’t just meet their goal – they crushed it, and then they made sure every basket found a home.”

A Season of Generosity

Across every unit – from Grenada to Greenwood, from MVSU to Lexington – our kids learned that Easter is about more than candy and eggs. It’s about sharing joy, serving others, and building community.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, and family who made this season so special. And thank you to our Club staff and youth leaders who remind us every day what the Delta is made of.
