Pillow Academy students have donated more than $2,800 in proceeds from a recent fundraiser to the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwood. Members of the Pillow Academy Student Council presented the check Tuesday. Dia Chawla, a senior at Pillow and a member of the council, said the money came from their annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser.
“Every year we sell hearts to each other and give them to students, but we raise the money to donate to somewhere,” she said.
“Normally we do the Humane Society or St. Jude (Children’s Research Hospital) or something,” she said, “but we decided to go really local this year and something that we could relate to. Other children that were the same age as us but living completely different lives. We wanted to help them out.”
She said she has worked for and babysat for the club’s director, Synthia Hoover, and thought donating to the club was the perfect choice.
“The Boys and Girls Club is grateful that Pillow Academy and their fundraiser thought about us and decided to be a part of the Boys and Girls Club in giving us funding,” said Hoover. “We are truly appreciative.”
