What is Youth of the Year???
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs' premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of club Members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Boys & Girls Club is selected to be the state Youth of the Year. Candidates emerge from a year-round recognition program in their local Clubs or BGCA-affiliated youth center. They progress through local Club and organization YOY events. Culminating in a three-day celebration in a designated city in Mississippi.
State YOY designees then go on to compete at the Regional Level - Southeast, Northeast, Central, Southwest, and Northwest. Designees from each Region then go on to the National Youth of the Year Competition, during which, one candidate is named traditional Youth of the Year and another is named Military Youth of the Year. This is the most prestigious honor that can be bestowed upon a Club member.
YOY candidates at all levels receive recognition and scholarships and stand to represent their fellow Club Members throughout their community, sharing their Club experience and the impact it makes on their lives.
